My mother is really into the real foodmovement. She decided that she was going to change her diet a long time ago and as long as I can remember, she’s served the best food at her house when we visit. I have always loved the quirky but always very delicious foods she serves and I did not realize that she was actually working on improving her health with this. She sat me down one day to tell me all about it, and I was very impressed with how much she changed.
I can remember when we were little, we did eat quite a bit of processed food. Strapped for time, my mother always made sure that we were well fed, but it wasn’t always the healthiest options. She decided that she wanted to make the change because she’d seen a program on television that exposed many of the additives that go into our food. It made her realize that our diets were not the best and that she could do better. She says that her success in this, and being able to better balance healthy eating with time is in pre-preparing the foods. She also tends to eat a lot of salads, and other things that do not require a great deal of preparation and this helps as well.
She works with a lot of Traditional Food Recipes that seem like they would take a lot of work. I was surprised to find that actually, owing to their simplicity they are easier than they seem. However, whenever you sit down to a meal at my mother’s house, it seems like she’s spent all day in the kitchen. This could not be further from the truth, she’s just discovered and uses the simplicity that comes from making your food from scratch.
